Gent – Visual Alarm Devices (VADs)
Gents latest S-quad devices all conform to the European Standard EN54-23. EN54-23 specifies the criteria of the effectiveness that Visual Alarm Devices (VADs) are required to reach, this also now forms part of the British Standard 5839 pt1. Previously there was no standard, this left certain areas of a building under risk. VADs usually provide a primary alert for the deaf, the hard of hearing and for areas with high background noise. A typical example is within a manufacturing environment where loud machinery is always in operation and the use of stand alone sounders may not alert people. The use of VADs, designed to criteria of EN54-23, can be used as the primary source of indication and helps eliminate the possibility of unaware people in the event of a fire.
